Opening collections on 'read-only' share fails

Within Enterprise Vault, opening an item that has been collected will fail if the share being used is 'read-only'.  This is apparently because EV writes a temporary file to the actual storage device when items are retreived from collections and apparently this is no longer strictly necessare but just a 'left over' in the code from older versions.

When using replicated NAS decices to provide a DR capability is is very desirable to leave the shares on the DR site in read-only mode to protect againsed any accidental write activity.  By design, replication is only one-way so to write data during a DR would cause significent difficulty at the storage level.

Would it be possible to make a product enhancement to either

  • provide a registry key or configuration option to allow the temporary files to be written to a specificd location - for example a local directory on the EV servers local disk

Or

  • Remove the requirement for EV to write any data at all to storage when opening a collected item.  My understanding is that this practice is no longer necessary.

Thank You
