All Symantec TCP Services should have test protocols embedded as standard

One issue I face regularly with vendor products is detecting whether they are actually working or not.

A vendor service may be up, a process may be running, but this does not mean that the service is able to perform useful work.

Whilst elaborate script writing can test for work being completed in a timely manner, but this is not within reach of most Altiris Administrators.

It would therefore be brilliant if, as standard, TCP services that Symantec develop have within their protocol description a simple diagnostic test which will enable admins to understand quickly if a service is functioning as designed. Such protocol tests could then be leveraged in a supported way, and even included at standard in Symantec's montor Altiris Montor Solution.

Please vote this up if you think this is a good idea!
