Symantec E-mail Submission Client service won't run

I need a solution

I work with a smaller organization that is using Mail Security for antispam. I have the main SMSMSE installed and set up, but am not able to get the SESC service to start up.

We have 2 servers, and both are domain controllers to provide some redundancy. While the system requirements recommend not running on a DC, we don't have a large network and demoting one of our servers would eliminate the secondary DC.

SESC installs fine, but the service will not start up on either of our servers. The error from event log is "Failed to start the service. Reason: User (domain/SYSTEM) is not a member of local adminstrator group." This error is repeated even when the user was set temporarily as a known administrator (from the AD, as the local server is a DC and does not have a local users database).

It would be nice to have SESC running, but I'm not sure how to do it. This error doesn't seem to pop up in any of the documentation.
