using bpstart_notify scripts

hello all, i need assistance on how to apply bpstart_notify & bpend_notify to control a specific jobs in backup policy. In simple explanation, i want to use bpstart and bpend to control the scripts that shut down databases, do a backup and talk to the script to bring up the database once backup is completed.
